Residents who require renal dialysis should continue care with a nearby Renal Dialysis Center. Yes, most of our Social Workers speak Spanish. Many of our other staff members speak Spanish as well as other languages. Isabella does not have a dedicated unit for psychiatric care. Applications for individuals with a psychiatric history will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. The one negative thing was that it was not very bright in there.
This location and its surroundings have a long history with the Jewish community. The building was first used as a nursing home in 1911 and later focused on nursing care for the elderly, remaining in operation until 1943. The cost of both of these services was covered by the Jewish community of Prague and by private donors. It has been just two years since a new project called Hagibor was initiated, once again making Hagibor a place of great importance for the Jewish community of Prague. Primary care clinics provide day-to-day healthcare services to patients. Primary care acts as the principal point of continuous healthcare for patients and also coordinates specialist care as may be required by the patient.
Long-Term Care
I was able to visit a friend of mine at Isabella Geriatric Care. When I visited one time they have a program going on like music and therapy. She is in a shared room, and the residents are not spending a lot in their room.
In one instance the wife of the Israeli Ambassador came to visit and now is a regular volunteer. These events also include some interreligious dialogue. We receive a lot of help from our Czech and international volunteers, who support our clients in many practical and emotional ways. It is one of the major tasks of modern society to talk about our history and to especially encourage the younger generation to learn about the history of the Shoah and to carry the lessons into the future.

Our activity programs are quite varied, offering a wide range of stimulating social, cultural and educational programs. Depending on each resident’s needs, our Rehabilitation Therapy Team will develop and supervise a customized plan to enable the resident to gain optimal functionality. Isabella House has a lot of privacy, and it is very affordable.
Symbols such as the Star of David are real and have an historical continuity. Other badges such as the Nazi swastika, symbolize the evil ideas beyond human understanding, appearing from a void in human history. Understanding our past, its stories, and its symbols can be an opportunity to think about our existence and the meaning of life. We certainly can learn a lot from Shoah survivors who went through extreme life situations and are now sharing their stories with the larger community. Hagibor is proud to be part of this interaction when the personal stories of survivors can help others to understand the real history.

I have no doubt that had Isabella prepared for the covid-19 pandemic with infection control, adequate staffing and testing, my mom would be alive today. She might not have had long to live but she wouldn't have had to spend her last months fading into lonely dementia with only ghost cats to keep her company. What's more infuriating are the official statements coming out of Isaballa where they blame the state for not providing them with tests and remind the loved ones of the residents that many residents are frail.
Isabella’s Palliative Care Team consists of doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, nutritionists, rehabilitation and recreation therapists, and pastoral care professionals. Volunteers also play an important role in assisting with our Palliative Care efforts. Together, the Palliative Care Team works with each resident and his or her family to develop a plan of care that is perfectly suited to meet each resident’s needs. These adults can benefit from a Respite Care stay of up to 30 days in our warm, caring environment, while the caregiver receives time to tend to his or her own life, family or business. Located in Northern Manhattan, our Isabella offers the experience of living in a community where residents and staff cultivate the deep bonds that come from knowing each other very well.
Our therapeutic programs make the most of each individual’s physical and cognitive abilities, imparting a sense of security and self-esteem. We encourage residents to join in a wide range of day and evening activities, from group cognitive games, to dancing, to one-on-one sensory stimulation and aromatherapy. We also hold supervised cooking classes with the participation of the residents’ personal caretakers as well as professional staff. Our personalized music therapy program provides an opportunity for residents to relive memories of enjoyable past experiences. Think the facility was well maintained and looked very good compared to the other facilities I have visited. It was very large and had a variety of things for the residents to do.
Also, if you happen to have a problem with your bowels or bladder at night in the bed, they didn't make a big to do about it. The floor that I was on was for people whose mobility was impaired for various reasons. Sometimes, they would do one procedure in the morning, the other in the afternoon, and then reverse it. The other procedure was for people who were more impaired than I was or people who were obviously experiencing dementia. I had not gotten that bad, but they had the same things for many people.
The last one I was in was Isabelle Geriatric. They really are trying to get you better through the physical exercise that you do every day, twice in the morning and the afternoon. And then, for the rest of the day, you are on your own to take a nap or recover from the workout. And, of course, I had my own room, which was covered by my health insurance. They brought the food or you could go to the dining room.

Isabella values the freedom of everyone while also attending to the safety and security of each resident. Where appropriate, residents may wear a “Watchmate” which provides immediate notice to staff if the wearer wanders into an unexpected or unprotected area. Staff accompanies the resident back to safety. There are no locked resident floors at Isabella. Security measures are in place at all times.
